Lady Gaga, a longtime fan of Alexander McQueen, couldn't help but put in a bid for a chance to take home a pair (or three) of the late designer's famed Armadillo boots. The pop star fell in love with the now-archetypal footwear after borrowing them for her "Bad Romance" music video in 2009. Footwear News reports she spent $295,000 for three pairs at the Christie's auction. No buyer's remorse necessary. Now that's a pretty penny.

The instantly recognizable Armadillo boots from Alexander McQueen's spring/summer 2010 collection show auctioned off by Christie's this month. Three pairs of the iconic footwear have been specially remade to raise funds in support of UNICEF relief efforts in Nepal. Originally created for the catwalk, McQueen's Armadillo boots never actually went into production.

The designer's futuristic spectacle was inspired by Darwin's theories of evolution and contemporary concerns about global warming. The Armadillo boots, aptly named for their armour-like appearance, are widely considered to be one of the most iconic pieces created by McQueen in his lifetime. The auction took place from July 14 – 23 via christies.com. All proceeds from the sale will go to UNICEF's fund supporting Nepal relief efforts.
